2012 Cadillac SRX to Get New 300-HP 3.6L V6 Standard
A month ago, Cadillac announced the untimely demise of the SRX Turbo. Initially reported by the team at GMInsideNews, they now have new info on exactly why Cadillac made the call.
True, the SRX Turbo had incredibly low sales volumes, but it appears the turbocharged 2.8-liter won't be missed as Cadillac is set to offer a new version of its 3.6-liter V6 engine, making over 300-hp.
That powerplant currently makes 304-hp in the CTS and is rated as high as 312-hp in the new Camaro.
Better yet, the 3.6L V6 will become the new base engine in the SRX, replacing the 265-hp 3.0-liter unit – which will reportedly be kept around for export models.
Using a larger V6 as opposed to the turbocharged 2.8-liter unit will also help Cadillac avoid one of the turbo model's main drawbacks – less than impressive fuel economy.
