GM Shuts Plants to Reduce Inventory

GM Shuts Plants to Reduce Inventory

General Motors Corp. is closing four different assembly plants next week, including its high-profile Grand River plant in Lansing, Mich., the heart of the company's efforts to rebuild the Cadillac brand and to build "gotta-have products" that will appeal to new buyers. The Lansing Grand River plant is the source for several high-profile models such as the Cadillac CTS, STX, and SRX as well as the V-versions of the CTS and STS, making it critical to GM's image-building efforts. The plant will be shut temporarily this week in effort to reduce inventories of unsold vehicles, GM officials confirmed. The shutdowns, even temporary as they are, are setbacks for GM and leaves the giant automaker's management facing serious questions about the company's strategy and directions. In addition, GM also said it was temporarily closing the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant for one week, the sources for the full-size Cadillac DeVille and new Buick LaCrosse.

Cadillac models are among the "gotta-haves" that aren't moving.

So, this is unfortunate news for Cadillac and basicly shows that the models arent selling as quite as good as hoped. Generally speaking tho, Cadillac is moving forward with their turn around strategy, and overall this year and last year, sales are up compared to previous years.
