Hi,

I just picked up an 04 CTS-V.
It's such a joy to drive and handles way better than I expected. :D
However, I noticed there is a slight stubmble when shutting the engine down.
Is this normal?

What do you mean? How about a little more detail. Is it like pinging?

After turning the ignition off, the engine continues spinning for about a second or two longer than I would expect. Then it comes to rest with a bit of a shake and slight rattle. The brief rattle does sound similar to a pinging sound.
Is that normal behavior for this engine?

Both the LS6 in the V and the LS1 in the Corvette do this. At first I thought it sounded a bit weird when shutting down but I eventually got used to it. If you still suspect something is wrong post up a sound clip or a video. I highly doubt your engine is pinging when it is shutting down.

Thanks for the info. :)
I really appreciate the quick response.
My car only has 9K on it, so I suspected all was well.
I feel a lot better now.

BTW - This forum rocks!
I really appreciate the demeanor of people who post here.
It's so much nicer than the situation on other automotive forums, that get so ridiculous sometimes.
You guys have something really great going on here.

I bet one or both of your motor mounts are broken... The mount doesn't break completely but it cracks enough to leak fluid out of it. Once it does that it almost feels like the engine is "running on" or "dieseling" when you shut the car off... Seen quite a few V's with this condition...

Thanks Redline. :D

That's probably it.
I'll have it checked out and post the findings.
