I'm thinking of buying a 2005 CTS-V and one that I'm looking at has a "9" for the 9th digit in the VIN. Seems that the others are a "5".

Can anyone point me to a site that explains each digit?

Thanks guys :)

I test drove a 2005 CTS-V today and the gearshift seemed sloppy. Does anyone have an aftermarket shifter installed, like a Hurst Billet short throw? I have one in my Corvette and the shifting is precise and quick.

Other than that the car was great.

Thanks Reed, the 9th digit is a check digit. No wonder it is different. Thanks for the info.

The best shifter is the UUC. The ctsv and gto use a completely different shifter mechanism than most tremec applications.

Thanks, this looks like what I was looking for.

In the Corvette I have a Hurst Billet Short Throw Shifter with heavy springs in it. So when it is in neutral the shifter is below the 3rd gear gate. Also 2nd to 3rd shift is straight up not up-over-up. Is the UUC shifter similar in this regard?

Thanks for the name so I could find the website. (http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/)
